Painting is the joy of my life, especially when painting plein air.  I can experience more of the whole scene before me. It is not nearly as exciting to be alone in my studio working from sketches or photos.  On location I am aware of the weather, the light, the shadows, the shapes, the textures, and sometimes the people who stop to look or to talk to me.  All those elements are wrapped up in the painting and when I look at the finished product, framed and hanging on the wall. I remember and can feel, all over again, the

sensations I felt when I was creating it.

Painting is a journey for me that goes beyond any preconceived limits. It is intriguing for me to watch the painting develop as I am forced to edit and make choices while enjoying the challenge.  Sometimes I fail and sometimes it works beyond my wildest dreams, but it is always a learning experience filled with expectations and happiness.
